Aare was a Short Film/ Performance piece created by artist Taoheed Bayo, a project which was premiered at the Lagos Film Festival, African Film Festival and currently streamed on Nowness.
"The project serves as an archival preservation of cultural heritage, the short film Aare celebrates the practices of the Yoruba people through dance and movement. Through themes of spirituality, vulnerability, rigidity, and self-discovery, the film follows the transcendental expansion of its central figure – performed and choreographed by Taoheed Bayo."
I was honored to be brought on to color such an amazing piece; I myself am a Yoruba Man, so the themes and history of this film are something that resonates with me. Being able to utilize my technical skills and experience to share and archive my culture is something that brings me joy.
